    64-Slice CT Scanner

Imaging Innovations: The 64-Slice CT Scanner at Methodist

Methodist Medical Center offers patients the benefits of a 64-slice computed tomography (CT) scanner. This revolutionary imaging system produces high-quality pictures of the human body and provides physicians with an unparalleled view of the heart, blood vessels, and other vital organs.

The 64-slice scanner offers incredible resolution and speed – with scan times sometimes ranging from just 5 to 13 seconds. For patients with pulmonary or congestive heart failure, this means less time necessary to hold their breath during imaging. For physicians, it means a better image because there is little to no motion to compromise the scan.

CT scans have become the standard for diagnostic imaging. They are suitable for diagnosing an array of conditions that can occur throughout the body such as coronary problems, abdominal pain, cancer, kidney stones, appendicitis, spinal stenosis, and injuries of all kinds.

Using x-ray technology, CT scans create detailed images of the body.

illiam Molony, M.D.“With this new technology, there is a dramatic increase in the amount of information we can quickly acquire from a single scan,” said William Molony, M.D., medical director of imaging services at Methodist. “The new 64-slice scanner enables physicians to provide a higher degree of accuracy in diagnosing a number of conditions.”

Todd Justice, M.D.“Coronary CT angiography is truly the future of diagnosing coronary problems such as atherosclerosis (the disease that causes heart attacks) non-invasively,” said Todd Justice, M.D., an interventional cardiologist on Methodist’s staff. “This technology can discover atherosclerosis long before it is even detectable on conventional angiography.”
