Plans are underway for the Methodist Medical Center Foundation’s Acorn Classic. The annual golf tournament will take place on Monday, October 8 at the Oak Ridge Country Club, and spots are still available for individual players and teams. This year’s tournament participants will have the opportunity to bid in an auction featuring a golf bag signed by pro golfers at the 2012 PGA Tour Deutsche Bank Championship.

A heart attack doesn’t give its victim much choice in when and where it strikes, but for Donald Fox, time and place were on his side. The Karns man was at his job at B&W Y-12 in Oak Ridge when he began feeling the symptoms. But thanks to the swift action of the company's on-site medical staff and the cardiac care team at Methodist Medical Center, Fox got the help he needed without sustaining damage to his heart.

Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge is one of only 164 hospitals in the nation to receive the American College of Cardiology Foundation’s 2012 Platinum Performance Award for implementing “a higher standard of care” for patients who have suffered a heart attack. Methodist earned the organization’s Gold Performance Award in 2011. The Platinum award is the highest level achievable.

Amy Jo and Joseph Yoder of Deer Lodge, Tenn. have relied on Methodist Medical Center's Family Birthing Center for the births of each of their four children. They have come to value the friendliness of the staff, the accommodations, and the emphasis on family that Methodist has to offer. The curvy drive takes them more than an hour, but for this growing family, it's worth it.

Research shows that breastfeeding is nourishing, boosts disease-fighting ability and more, but a large number of mothers in the United States, they say, do not breastfeed their babies.
