All About Methodist Medical Center
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge dates back to 1942. Our history began with World War II, when the American government tapped the best and brightest in health services to care for the scientists, engineers and citizens working on the Manhattan Project in "the Secret City."
A history of excellence
Methodist was the first hospital ever to earn the Tennessee Quality Governor's Award, the state's highest award for quality. It's just one of many national recognitions and awards we've received for excellence in healthcare.
High-caliber doctors, nurses and support staff are the key to top patient service. Our regional medical center offers:
- Services in 35 specialties, from cardiology to orthopedics
- Emergency care with state-of-the-art technology
- A 24-hour chest pain center. One of the first of its kind in America, the clinic speeds treatment for chest and cardiac problems.
Methodist became part of Covenant Health in 1996. The comprehensive health system was created by the consolidation of Fort Sanders Health System, Knoxville, and MMC HealthCare System, parent company of Methodist Medical Center in nearby Oak Ridge.
An exciting future
Over the course of the next two years, we will see the addition of a new endovascular surgical suite, new treatment and recovery areas for our GI lab, renovations for increased private room capacity, and improvements to the surgery and critical care waiting areas including a space just for children. These are exciting times for us as we strive to exceed the expectations of our community and to take our high standard of care that much higher.
It's all part of a new era in patient and family care at Methodist Medical Center.
