  • Purpose
The Methodist Hospital Foundation was established in 1990 to acquire and accept charitable gifts for Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge (MMC). The Foundation's responsibility, and indeed its challenge, is to secure charitable funds so as to perpetuate and advance the highest quality of health care services at MMC . . . services that must continue to grow for the good of the entire community.

    Our Mission:

    • To encourage philanthropy of individuals and institutions in support of MMC. This support will benefit MMC in the following ways:

      • Provide health resources for the medically indigent in our community.
      • Provide partial or total funding for capital projects such as construction, renovation, equipment, and other capital items.
      • Provide endowed income to supplement the Medical Center's earnings in order to help secure the long-term financial stability of MMC.
      • Provide seed money and sustaining funds for special services and programs for which reimbursement may not be available.

    • To encourage community support, awareness, and a positive public image by involving in the fund raising efforts of the foundation as many members of the community as possible as volunteers and as donors.

    • To help expand and improve the healthcare services of MMC. Examples include raising charitable funds to assist in the training and education of qualified healthcare professionals; to purchase state-of-the-art medical technology; to renovate and/or construct medical facilities; to support new approaches to enhance the quality of healthcare available throughout Anderson, Campbell, Morgan, Roane, and Scott Counties.

Simply put, the mission of the Foundation is to assist MMC extend the gift of life to all those in need, regardless of their ability to pay.

    Organization
The Foundation is a separate, non-profit corporation which is governed by a volunteer board of Directors, each of whom is a recognized leader in the communities MMC serves. Board members donate their time, talents, expertise, insights, and financial support. Board members are responsible for helping to ensure that the Foundation is an efficient cost-effective organization, fully accountable for the philanthropic funds entrusted to it.

    Fund Raising Policy
The fund raising priorities of the Foundation are established in conjunction with MMC, and will vary according to the Medical Center's and the community's needs.

The Foundation maintains comprehensive, stable, innovative, and successful fund raising programs. Each fund raising program involves broad community financial support, identification, development, and solicitation of major prospects, donor recognition, cultivation of endowed funds, and planned giving. Special efforts are made to encourage philanthropy among the hospital family (employees, physicians, and Volunteers), former patients, corporations and foundations.

Now more than ever, quality healthcare depends on charity. At issue is preeminent medical care and the sustained growth necessary to serve the present and future generations of East Tennesseans. These goals can only be accomplished through community philanthropy. Gifts of cash, securities, personal property, and real estate are vital to the future of quality healthcare.

The manner in which gifts to MMC are structured is very important to the donor and to the Foundation. It is the goal of the Foundation to construct an environment that will:

    • Maximize the benefits of philanthropy for the donor.
    • Enable MMC's financial supporters to participate in a mission that was started many years ago.
    • Assist donors structure gifts, during their lifetime or through their Last Will and Testament, in a way that maximizes the tax benefits of their philanthropy and allows them to retain an interest in the gift property.

Private philanthropic support will benefit MMC in the following ways:

    • Defray healthcare costs of indigent patients.
    • Provide sustaining funds which can be used to supplement operating cash flow and, through endowment income, help secure the long-term financial stability of MMC.
    • Provide partial or total funding for capital projects.
    • Provide seed money and sustaining funds for special services and programs.

Private Philanthropy will support Methodist Hospital Foundation.

It is one of the stated goals of Methodist Hospital Foundation to endeavor to be self-supporting and self-sustaining and to exercise due diligence in its financial activities.
