The Wellness Place
The Wellness Place at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge assists all people, and especially those at greater risk of health disparities, in achieving their optimal lifespan with the best possible quality of health in every stage of life.
We have combined services of the Methodist Diabetes and Congestive Heart Failure Centers with our Comprehensive Chest Clinic programs. And we have brought together more nurses and a dietitian to better serve people in this area.
Services include:
- Educational help for developing self management skills and support groups for people with diabetes and congestive heart failure
- Accelerated diagnosis and evaluation of what may be lung cancer or other cancers of the chest
- Nutritional counseling with a registered dietitian
- Support groups to provide education and encouragement
Our Congestive Heart Failure Program - with classes and a support group - teaches patients how best to manage their disease. Staff members touch base with patients by telephone for at least six months. There is no charge, but patients must have a doctor's referral.
The diabetes program at the Wellness Place helps people with diabetes understand and self-manage their disease. Patients take part in one-on-one and group education sessions and may participate in one or more support groups. While in the program, patients learn about diet and exercise, blood glucose monitoring, blood glucose meters, insulin injections, insulin pumps, medications, diabetes during pregnancy and more. A doctor's referral is required.
The Comprehensive Chest Clinic of East Tennessee is dedicated to treating patients with suspected lung or other chest cancers. One of only a few programs of its type in the United States, the clinic takes a comprehensive approach to chest care. The clinic's goal is to reduce the time between finding what may be cancer in the chest and working with a multidisciplinary team to begin treatment sooner. This team of specialists combines their skills and expertise to develop the most effective treatment plan for the patient. By working together, these specialists provide chest cancer patients with better access to treatment through easier referrals, better coordination of care, and improved patient outcomes.
Medical Nutrition Therapy involves one-on-one counseling with a dietitian for numerous medical conditions such as diabetes, pre-diabetes, weight management, high cholesterol, hypertension, metabolic syndrome, celiac disease, congestive heart failure, and kidney disease.
