From patient navigation and specialized clinical care to a resource center and lodging for long-distance patients, Methodist Cancer Support Services is here to walk with you on the road to recovery.
The role of the patient navigator is to help coordinate medical care after a patient is diagnosed with cancer. Patient navigators provide help with appointments, answer questions and connect patients with additional support from outside organizations. Thompson Cancer Resource Center at Methodist
Thompson Cancer Resource Center is located on the 2nd Level of Thompson Cancer Survival at Methodist 102 Vermont Ave., Oak Ridge. Self-serve access to a variety of cancer-related literature is available Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. A free wig bank is open by appointment and provides cancer patients with wigs and personalized fittings as well as other accessories to make you more comfortable. Methodist Therapy Services
Early therapeutic intervention during or after cancer treatment can be critical to a successful recovery. Therapists trained in specialized treatments for lymphedema, speech and swallowing issues, as well as physical therapy help patients achieve the best recovery options possible. The Wound Treatment Center
While not the norm, the powerful treatments needed to fight cancer can sometimes cause side effects that need specialized wound care. Adding hyperbaric oxygen therapy following radiation treatment for cancer can be extremely effective in treating damaged tissue and promoting the growth of new blood vessel activity and healthy tissue. The Hospitality Houses
Methodist’s cancer services are sought out by people from throughout the region and our Hospitality Houses were created to help ease the emotional and financial burdens of being far away from home during treatment. The Hospitality Houses offer free lodging for as long as a patient and family may need. To request a room, call (865) 835-4538.
Methodist Medical Center sponsors a smoking cessation class series, which is held four times each year. The cost of the class is refunded upon completion of the eight-class series. Thompson Cancer Survival Center at Methodist
Radiation therapy helps shrink and kill cancer cells and relieve symptoms. Thompson Cancer Survival Center at Methodist offers a variety of unique technologies and wellness services designed to care for the whole patient on an outpatient basis. Patients will find specialized technology and equipment that precisely forms around and targets cancers, delivering powerful treatment while sparing healthy tissue and minimizing side effects. Thompson at Methodist delivers a full range of radiotherapy modalities, including image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT), intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), RapidArc radiotherapy technology, and stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT).
