With May being the month of Florence Nightingale’s birthday, it is fitting to be gathered here to honor one of your own. Sally Eisenhauer, today we are here to present you with a DAISY award, which recognizes nurses who provide extraordinary care. For those who might not be familiar, it is an international nurse recognition program that celebrates the compassion and skills nurses bring to patients and families every day. 
Let me read the nomination for Sally ….
We would like to thank Sally for being such a loving and caring person. She was with us from start to finish during the delivery of our baby girl – and she was a true professional. A great communicator and a wonderful champion for me and my baby. During my labor, my baby’s oxygen and heartbeat began to drop. Sally took immediate control of the situation and before I knew it she had me ready to start pushing. The urgency and care she gave us could have saved her life. We were so grateful to have her with us – much love and respect Sally … our little family thanks you.
Bringing new life into this world is such a special calling and Sally you will forever be a part of that family’s memory – as I’m sure you are with the many families you have encountered throughout your 19 years here at Methodist. Thank you for your exceptional care and for the inspiring difference you make every day!
The DAISY Award was established in 1999 by the family of a patient, J. Patrick Barnes, who had received extraordinary care and compassion from his nurses during his final days. At a bi-annual surprise reception, our winners receive:
- A certificate
- A DAISY award pin
- A unique, hand-carved sculpture from Zimbabwe entitled “A Healer’s Touch”
- A bouquet of daisies
- A Cinnabon cinnamon roll (Patrick’s favorite food)
Nurses may be nominated by patients and families, and they are chosen by a committee at Methodist Medical Center to receive The DAISY Award. To nominate a nurse today visit here.
